Wooden ring

Mahalo,
this small wooden rings, well known as Celtic knots are just the beginning of
some more complex project coming on my desk from my soul!
Somewhere man must to begin, for this time, checking the patterns
on round objects. It was all drawn on new, then the ring
of 17mm diameter was pre-milled on CNC from walnut wood.
Some hand carving and wax finish and the earrings are done.
I am satisfied with result, in future the rings as I need them will
be not so small and also the wood will be harder!

Enjoy the life and have fun with the work you did!

Aug update nr.1 The recorder stand

Mahalo,
Walking around the word with open eyes, we have as product designers, this opurtunity to
see the "problems" on products. Exactly this happened with Mateja Bajt and her recorder stand!

Mateja Bajt studied the recorder at the Music School in Radovljica (Slovenia), and continued her studies with Prof. H. M. Kneihs at the Hochschule für Music in Vienna (Austria) In 1994 she finished her studies of methodology and in 1997 her concert studies with distinction. She received a special award from the Austrian Ministry of Science for her outstanding achievements. In 1998 she specialized in chamber and contemporary music. She teaches recorder on University and Conservatory of Music in Ljubljana.

Here is the link to last year concert at Radovljica music Festival

Mateja have from her professionalism, huge selection of recorders, some of them are top range of
instruments themselves. So nice instruments need special care to be handling! The idea was born
after some discussion with her! Seeing the, close to 30 recorders stored, for my eyes
on inappropriate, recorder stand, the brain tornado with the help of volcano of ideas from her side,
give us the clean idea what the new stand will be! It take almost a year to finish the product!
It was worth for it!

From some early computer renderings, to clean the idea and set up the geometry, technology,
materials the R&D go step by step forward!

The M_Pyramid was finalizing in workshop as the art design prototype!
The product is tribute and gift to Mateja and her recorders!

M-pyramid pictures with original recorders will follow as soon we find timing with Mateja,
on her busy scheduling!

The whole geometry follow well proved old Egyptian pyramids geometry, the recorders need
right energy for liveliness & love too!  Wood block on the bottom is done from American walnut,
the top transparent holders from acrylic glass! The recorders are rested on carbon fiber polls,
different lengths! The wood block get drawer for small parts which are in use to clean the recorders
and take care! Under acrylic Pyramid with two floors, on the wood layer the Celtic V-cut find the place!
In all the special product was created and future ideas of 1/3 and 2/3 size recorder holder
are on the way! Lets see what the future show!

Axeman Moth again fly over

Mahalo,
a couple nano seconds later,
here we are
or I am again.
Happy about to have the "old Axeman" in action!
As I wrote in previews posts
http://drlojz.blogspot.com/2011/05/moth-hydrofoil-2011.html
and this year
http://drlojz.blogspot.com/2012/03/hydrofoils-2012-update.html
The new hydrofoil set up was finished and ready to test.
First assembly and angels of hydrofoils check.

One good day on local lake Bled with pure enjoy, flying over the water surface.

Conclusion, the main foil works well enaught to bring the ower weight Axeman again to foiling.
One month before the Worlds on Garda Lake the new set up was presented.
The new foil based on HQ2012 profile, it is weary thin, so I have much more work to do, as I respect, specialy on the flap system and mechanism! In all everything works well and Axeman set up the new speed on lake with 17knot max!
I will upload here later the 3D files of the foil, to share the idea with Moth world!
Stay tuned!

the new violin is on the way. Take time, but is normal to clean vision/work/technology.
Slowly everything is coming together!
The Celtic Beauty violin is on there way! Here is the illustration of the pattern making.
A lot of precise work! As is the Celtic culture strongly connected with the music,
so are the Celtic patterns also!

Hydrofoils 2012 update

Mahalo,
I was asked from different sides to update the situation on the
current hydrofoil work. In the past this work have not priority
on my list, but was moved time to time!
Well here we go! The new underwater wings was laminated,
cured, and come out of the mold successful!
Afterwards the trimmed, cleaned and gap for vertical was open.
The horizontal foil will be screwed on vertical with M8, this make
good opportunity to adjust the AOA and general angle of the
moth to the water surface.
Work to do, cut the flaps, make the steering mechanisms and and....
Looking forward to have this finished in time to enjoy the wind and water!

Stay tuned!

Re Design of the sensor Faucet

For the VS company we are in A good mix of Creativity studio,  make a step forward with design in the process of "face lift" for the sensor Faucet . On the first step we re-engineering the existing Faucet to parametrically values in Alibre design CAD system. With this we can on time checking all the elements in Faucet and tolerance on elements. When designing, a new input was taken into account all possibilities of new manufacturing technologies, including automation.  The product has got a new look with approach of industrial designer, who was responsible for visual shape/look and he worked closely in the design process. For dimensional and functional verification, we make in the company Chemets, Kranj, prototype of the Faucet with the laser sintering (SLS technology). Based on this model were established silicone molds for casting with polyurethanes resin. Model of the Faucet was made under the process of vacuum casting of materials with similar technical characteristics as the later finished products. Technology and process ensures maximum flexibility of manufacture to the requirements of product in this case, especially for the different configuration of accessories depending on the specific customer product. This covers a very important niche in the field of sensor taps. Using CAD design and manufacture a prototype according to the methods of 3D technologies, we significantly reduce development time product, in particular, its accuracy and flexibility for development and design

Moth hydrofoil 2011

Mahalo,
again long time from my last writing on the Blog, standard reason is too busy on different projects running in my life and work. But thing going on step by step, fist of all Moth will get new hydrofoil, the original was last summer twice broken, it is still sailable but bad performance. I start to design new one over the winter and it was on the CNC machine for the first cut.

I will write more regarding design construction in next posts,
here and now just some shots of making off!

Violin second step

Time is running me away like a hell,
the second violin is on the working bench!
In process of design I have now four violins.
It will follow the fist one step by step. Soon the second
one will give the sound, then the decision on technical
futures will be made for the next steps.

"Autumn glory"
Light reed wood, ebony fingerboard, carbon scroll, some nice
details on the wall! Some pictures of formation are bellow!

"Celtic beauty"
In full carbon look, with gold Celtic graphic on the planks and bottom/upper nut
from brass! Pure extraordinary look as Celtic beauty desire!

"Dark vibrations"
Reed wood, dark fell, Wood look, fingerboard carbon on palisander wood,
tail piece palisander , maybe the peg also, chinrest palisander.

"Yellow madness" Yellow wood, with carbon frame and ornament purfling!

So this are the plans, lets see whats come out of this!

And again here we have some nice material patterns!

Enjoy life!

Violin passion part VI & sound check

Dreams are all about we are looking for,
the violin come to the point when professional musicians
like my good friend prof. Tomaz Pinter take
the instrument in his hands. This is the moment I was
waiting for! You too? Not scary, just celebration of the sound
and the shape. The concept works well, only some
people see the violin and they are happy, surprised,
cool about, me too!
Go forward dr.Lojz go! Yes I did, there is no way back!

Take a look and listen the sound, some fine tuning will
be done in future and new violin is already in my head!

And not to forget for the HiTeak violin from 1995 was played also:

This is one step more in my life full of passions and Violin is for sure one of them.
Thanks for all who support me on my way, this ones who are on direct contact with me
and the some of you who stay like a shadow in my life! Big thanks!

Violin passion part IV

Here we go, no matter if the weather is cold, rainy, gray, pushing down, who care!
Sure we get some new snow in the mountains and when the sun show up will be perfect.
I have my own light to keep me up! The violin make new steps forward and make me lucky.
The final assembly of the body was successful. Well I must to made all the clams new, but this help really to get the instrument into right shape. On the photo bellow we clearly see the parts before assembly. Closer look on the parts show us the construction and innovations on the master piece. The rib of violin is completed with sandwich of wood and carbon fiber /45deg CFK and wood vertical/. The belly and the back /plank ;-)/ are of full spruce wood and the neck is maple. The fingerboard, what else then ebony, so great material to work with. The main core innovation is the carbon tube connecting the neck and the button at the end of instrument. The tube will translate all the forces of the strings to release the body to be free for vibrations.
Well done on this point, let's free the ideas to the life and make some music out of it!

What's come next, sure final tuning, the strings, bridge, peg's and start to play on!

Violin passion part III

Work on the master piece going successful in direction "mission complete"!
The famous "F" holes was cut out, the shape of the holes was taken from my fist violin, the outline and the position was slightly adapted to the new design. At this point no supersonic technology can help, only good hand, sharp eye and patience! Done nicely, enjoining the shape and precisions!

The carbon fiber on the bottom destroy for each hole one hand saw, no problem if the result is positive! Good to have proper Fret metal saws!

Violin scroll, one of the famous part of the violin. Each lutenist give to this part his own touch and design. The violins can be recognize bay the scrolls as well. On modern concept design of violin my contribution to this is design and technology to make and to have the carbon fiber scroll. Looks from done product completely easy, but is not. First step is to decide and construct the spiral of the scroll. A lot of good help it is possible to find in this book of Sergei Muratov, he was calculate the violin completely as many others! In any case perfect work from him! Many of different ways I was try to complete this shape technological wise. From all at the end I still need my hands, eye, good feeling to bring this shape as it is! The task is successful done and the result is awesome. The black fiber run from pegbox into the infinite line, surface of the scroll! Perfect! At the end late at night for the first time the violin is temporary together with all the parts, just for better visualization! Lets go to complete this instrument, I am waiting for!

Violin passion part II

As the word was given, the pictures says more then words! Step by step illustration of the making of! Almost all the parts are done, even the carbon fiber scroll, which was real challenge. More of CFK scroll in my next posts. Here we have some steps of couture, milling of belly and bottom, cutting of the couture!

The graphic was applying o the top of the belly in vacuum process as well the bottom. The neck was construed in Alibre.com  and milled out from the wood block. At the end the finished plank have less then 75g. What this mean will be clear when the violin will be played!

On the plan is final assembly and the mystic of the carbon fiber scroll! Follow this space for more information's!
Thx dr.

Violin passion

Violin as a music instrument and excellent wood hand work piece, not to mention as design part, it is a wish to be touch for any designer. It touch me as well! First time on the university, late 80'! I visit the luthier, tell him my wish to make violin, He say, yes, yes my young friend, go ahead and come back to me, time to time. Well I was visit him twice precisely and forget for violin for 10y. Not completely forget, it stays in my mind somehow!
In mid of 90' I was back made for my good friend the weeding present! Here it is the Hi-Teac violin:

Did I am making good designs only for a weeding presents, I hope not, two of them for sure, the Eric Tye and Nejc violin. In late 90' the second one was made the same shape, technology and design. The second one is in my hands, it was made them for design exhibition only!

After 10 years I am back with violins, this time on my workbench, better to say on comp and CNC and workshop is the new one.
Hybrid violin, still without name but the fist info is here!

From this CAD drawings, not much to see, but from technology and design will be real masterpiece! I will tray to fill up time to time as the steps and results of the work!
For the better visualization some renders of violin!

As it is possible to see the shape remain "classical"! And this is all. The rib is done from 45deg orientated Carbon fiber vacuumed with weenier! The belly was taken on CNC out of full wood, then the carbon fiber layer was under special technology laminated on inside of "plank". The top part get the grafic on, violin will be finished in week or so and in this time I will post some steps of technology! Watch this space! Thanks to www.Alibre.com and Keyshot render software on help to have this violin on realization!
