Autumn Glory

Once it was a wish and the wish become reality!
The goal was to have the Autumn Glory
violin ready to play before Christmas!

Two days ago the new violin give the play, it is wonderful feeling after all
the work to hear instrument at work! Again prof. Tomaz Pinter
help me with the experience of master. Violin have, before the sound post was positioning,
really big troubles with "E" string oscillation. So strange and ugly tone, unbelievable!
After the sound post was insert the oscillation disappear in 90%,
it is still there at the hi tones but looking what it was is perfect!

Here it is, the Autumn Glory of itself.
The redwood hybrid plank mixed with carbon fiber and honeycomb sandwich,
the carbon wall and the "standard" scroll! Maple neck and ebony fingerboard!

The sound check was done at hook no preparation, really from the heart, enjoy!

Christmas nativity

As every year, like some tradition I am making Christmas figures.
For his year a some past designs was used and reproduced.
Looking in direction to find optimal relation of hand craft and design,
with the traditional nativity scene turning a work in modern art!
The small ones are made from acrylic glass, laser cut and
base of palisander woo! Height app. 15cm.

Bigger one represent the wood carving base&background with acrylic figures!
The American walnut, brown red structure was rough milled on CNC first and
for the finish, as must to be carved with knifes! So pleasure work
with the smell of wood!

Enjoy the rest of the days left before Christmas!

Violin second step

Time is running me away like a hell,
the second violin is on the working bench!
In process of design I have now four violins.
It will follow the fist one step by step. Soon the second
one will give the sound, then the decision on technical
futures will be made for the next steps.

"Autumn glory"
Light reed wood, ebony fingerboard, carbon scroll, some nice
details on the wall! Some pictures of formation are bellow!

"Celtic beauty"
In full carbon look, with gold Celtic graphic on the planks and bottom/upper nut
from brass! Pure extraordinary look as Celtic beauty desire!

"Dark vibrations"
Reed wood, dark fell, Wood look, fingerboard carbon on palisander wood,
tail piece palisander , maybe the peg also, chinrest palisander.

"Yellow madness" Yellow wood, with carbon frame and ornament purfling!

So this are the plans, lets see whats come out of this!

And again here we have some nice material patterns!

Enjoy life!

Violin passion part VI & sound check

Dreams are all about we are looking for,
the violin come to the point when professional musicians
like my good friend prof. Tomaz Pinter take
the instrument in his hands. This is the moment I was
waiting for! You too? Not scary, just celebration of the sound
and the shape. The concept works well, only some
people see the violin and they are happy, surprised,
cool about, me too!
Go forward dr.Lojz go! Yes I did, there is no way back!

Take a look and listen the sound, some fine tuning will
be done in future and new violin is already in my head!

And not to forget for the HiTeak violin from 1995 was played also:

This is one step more in my life full of passions and Violin is for sure one of them.
Thanks for all who support me on my way, this ones who are on direct contact with me
and the some of you who stay like a shadow in my life! Big thanks!

Violin passion part IV

Here we go, no matter if the weather is cold, rainy, gray, pushing down, who care!
Sure we get some new snow in the mountains and when the sun show up will be perfect.
I have my own light to keep me up! The violin make new steps forward and make me lucky.
The final assembly of the body was successful. Well I must to made all the clams new, but this help really to get the instrument into right shape. On the photo bellow we clearly see the parts before assembly. Closer look on the parts show us the construction and innovations on the master piece. The rib of violin is completed with sandwich of wood and carbon fiber /45deg CFK and wood vertical/. The belly and the back /plank ;-)/ are of full spruce wood and the neck is maple. The fingerboard, what else then ebony, so great material to work with. The main core innovation is the carbon tube connecting the neck and the button at the end of instrument. The tube will translate all the forces of the strings to release the body to be free for vibrations.
Well done on this point, let's free the ideas to the life and make some music out of it!

What's come next, sure final tuning, the strings, bridge, peg's and start to play on!

Violin passion part III

Work on the master piece going successful in direction "mission complete"!
The famous "F" holes was cut out, the shape of the holes was taken from my fist violin, the outline and the position was slightly adapted to the new design. At this point no supersonic technology can help, only good hand, sharp eye and patience! Done nicely, enjoining the shape and precisions!

The carbon fiber on the bottom destroy for each hole one hand saw, no problem if the result is positive! Good to have proper Fret metal saws!

Violin scroll, one of the famous part of the violin. Each lutenist give to this part his own touch and design. The violins can be recognize bay the scrolls as well. On modern concept design of violin my contribution to this is design and technology to make and to have the carbon fiber scroll. Looks from done product completely easy, but is not. First step is to decide and construct the spiral of the scroll. A lot of good help it is possible to find in this book of Sergei Muratov, he was calculate the violin completely as many others! In any case perfect work from him! Many of different ways I was try to complete this shape technological wise. From all at the end I still need my hands, eye, good feeling to bring this shape as it is! The task is successful done and the result is awesome. The black fiber run from pegbox into the infinite line, surface of the scroll! Perfect! At the end late at night for the first time the violin is temporary together with all the parts, just for better visualization! Lets go to complete this instrument, I am waiting for!

Violin passion part II

As the word was given, the pictures says more then words! Step by step illustration of the making of! Almost all the parts are done, even the carbon fiber scroll, which was real challenge. More of CFK scroll in my next posts. Here we have some steps of couture, milling of belly and bottom, cutting of the couture!

The graphic was applying o the top of the belly in vacuum process as well the bottom. The neck was construed in Alibre.com  and milled out from the wood block. At the end the finished plank have less then 75g. What this mean will be clear when the violin will be played!

On the plan is final assembly and the mystic of the carbon fiber scroll! Follow this space for more information's!
Thx dr.

Violin passion

Violin as a music instrument and excellent wood hand work piece, not to mention as design part, it is a wish to be touch for any designer. It touch me as well! First time on the university, late 80'! I visit the luthier, tell him my wish to make violin, He say, yes, yes my young friend, go ahead and come back to me, time to time. Well I was visit him twice precisely and forget for violin for 10y. Not completely forget, it stays in my mind somehow!
In mid of 90' I was back made for my good friend the weeding present! Here it is the Hi-Teac violin:

Did I am making good designs only for a weeding presents, I hope not, two of them for sure, the Eric Tye and Nejc violin. In late 90' the second one was made the same shape, technology and design. The second one is in my hands, it was made them for design exhibition only!

After 10 years I am back with violins, this time on my workbench, better to say on comp and CNC and workshop is the new one.
Hybrid violin, still without name but the fist info is here!

From this CAD drawings, not much to see, but from technology and design will be real masterpiece! I will tray to fill up time to time as the steps and results of the work!
For the better visualization some renders of violin!

As it is possible to see the shape remain "classical"! And this is all. The rib is done from 45deg orientated Carbon fiber vacuumed with weenier! The belly was taken on CNC out of full wood, then the carbon fiber layer was under special technology laminated on inside of "plank". The top part get the grafic on, violin will be finished in week or so and in this time I will post some steps of technology! Watch this space! Thanks to www.Alibre.com and Keyshot render software on help to have this violin on realization!
dr.Lojz

Late October

Well summer is over, defiantly, we get fresh new snow in the mountains! Moth was find a place under the roof in workshop, will be well stored over the winter. So for next five months no sailing on fresh water. The remains are still alive, like this one from neighborhood lake Osiacher see, where we was with local sailing club, enjoing the wind:

It is good to see "old" Axeman still alive after broken foil, scratched tramp and and so on!
For this summer I was broke the main foil twice! It was reparid twice as well and it is now
in bad shape, well still working, but not 100%. The main flap must to be adjusted to get more
lift at speeds under 10knots. For the moment no big plans for moth activities over the winter, for sure some designs visions will be proceed!

Carbon fibre Tie

What's this?
It is long story behind, almost 15 yeas when I made design
and weary first CFK Tie! This was pure art design with
strong connection of hi tech technology.
And what's happened now, my friend Eric Raymond
made end decision and he will get married with Irena on Saturday!

He is the man behind Solar Flight SUNSEEKER,
he find the N Slovenia and the Alps flying area
as his new home. Well you can not be alone so Irena
join his way to go! At the end of this part of life
they have official weeding at Saturday 26.june 2010!

Eric at NASA meeting /wearing blue Tie ;-) /

What a weding present I can make for a man plying with
top art of technology?? After brain storm and couple
conclusions the end decision was done, Eric will get
for his wedding Carbon Tie! Well done!

The Tie is made from real carbon fiber in vacuum technology
with insert of mahogany! the top part have waves shoving
and simulating the flapping of the tie! True the waves
is going hi polished brass stick ended with a sphere.
At the other end the mahogany elliptic oval connected
the wearing neck brass circle!

Here it is the carbon fiber Tie!

At the end I choose simply gift wrap from the florist shop and
Tamala help me over the net to choose the right flower for this set up!
Orange-Yellow Rose, supper one!

It looks like this when I give the present to Eric......

He was in workshoop when I jump in, with surprise, give him a Tie
and he stay speechless! Good done!
I whish to Eric all the best on his futre steps in his life, I am glad to
support him on some of his fliping mind projects!
Go, Eric and Irena, go!

CNC fins

Mahalo,
On the work to get out of the StealthRace board as much
as possible out, on one point the decision was to make
new fins! As I say the board is good, but it is too difficult
to ride, in comparison to other boards.
I am working on force pattern and from there the
conclusion is to have the middle fin smaller and the
"wing" fins will get new higher position.
Using Alibre CAD the fin was constructed and on
the end milled on machine.

Again the nice CNC patterns, which every time fascinating me. This is
so good to see how from zero coming up the product out from machine.

The modifications on the StelthRace board go step by step, dutue lack
of time from my design studio working day it is simply too much to do.

Update week 23

Mahalo,
it was fully week of sports, surprises, tests, crashes
and historic feels. Lets go step by step whats happened.

First of all I get chance to go on water with modification
foils on my Moth sailboat. See the blog here
On local Bled lake the conditions was nothing special,
but enough to get the Moth on the foils. Conclusion
is simply, the modification works well, before I was
not able to get up in low wind or with such a small
speed. Everything OK.
Later on week the forecast was better for Bohinj lake,
so I was there, looking for a nice session. But, mr. Murphy
was on work, First I was cut the trampoline, where is attach
to the boat, OK bad luck I say and go for new track.
But on some crash from foiling I was swim around
boat, I see the main foil broken, o holy s*! Only chance was
to sail direct to start point and the session was ended!

Here we have the broken main foil
Not really happy!

Angeled for couple degrees, with destroyed inside structure.
At the moment I am taking decision to make repair or go
for new design, h'mmmm????
And broken tramp, well or I am too hawy or the tramp mesh was old!

On Friday I have chance to go on Lago di Croche "I" for the second
test on Stelth race board. The results will be summarized and publish
here in short. The board get some modifications on and for first info
the max speed at the wind of max 12-14knot was 26knot. Not bad!

Follow this space for future info!

Today we have in town the meeting of Old-Bikes, I mean really old.
Ota my daughter ask me to go together and we go. I was ride the bike
from my grand father the German Wulcan from 1930 which I owned.
Ota was on the bike from 1960. Great party to meet so many bikers
with history behind!

Here we go Ota and dr.Lojz

I was able to have chance for a "test run" on oldest replica bike this day!
Only one to say crazy feeling to be part of history!

Wood wheels, steel rings and wooden seat, direct transmission and
HARD servo steering, bombastic!

Stelth_race_KB_update

Mahalo
As this Blog was created, with Stealth_race_KB was achieved the
goal given. The concept kite race board triggered a lot of dust on
kite forums all around globe. At the
thy made more tthen 1100 reads and counting in 3 days!
Thanks for all supporters on this idea of the board. I know
I am on right way, there is no compromise!

The board is at the moment on final tuning of the straps and fins
positions, looking forward to be for the coming weekend
ready on the water. So far so good!

Looks like if the interest for the board will grow up with
such a tendency, then some number of the boards will
be produced out of negative molds, the question is just to
set up enough orders to get good calc out!

Follow this space for more information's coming on!

Stelth_race_KB_1stTest

Mahalo,
Lucky with the finished board the Poseidon cooperate too,
thanks to him, I was able to made weary first
run on the water. With the support of my friend Jani, the
destination was clear, go to coast!
I don't have any idea what will happened, the idea and
the galactic flow was too big over the development
time. One was clear, once we are 100% focused to the
final point the result come on suddenly.
In Grado North Italy the S wind was 8-12knots and it
was promising for fist attempt.

The Stealth kite race work as was predicted without any troubles on
the edge/classic kite style/ Fins are holding like a hell, but wait,
when you press the board flat on the water, "stealth" effect come on.
The board accelerate as a sports car, there is no comparison to
the "normal kite" board. I am talking from my 12 years guru status
in the sport, from early beginigs. The board was justified expectations
and the final trim on the straps and fins will be done in the future.
I hope I will in short get the Gps to be more precise on the
physical data, for me this is the most important point, just in front of
personal opinion and 3D design!

In any case we was enjoy nice sunny day, good wind for such a riding
style and perfect day.
See you on the water!

Stelth_race_KB_finished

Mahalo,
it is so far, the board is finished. At the end the right
description for the board could to be the concept kite race
board. The time will show on the right direction of the concept.
Some qiuck facts of the board, 1750mm long 500mm wide,
board alone on the scale 4,9kg, but unbreakable! From my
know-how some of weight can be taken off from the
original layout. It is not exempt chance to go in direction
of negative molds, lets see what the time will show on.

Here the are, her majesty the Stelth race in life. For all those
who not believe and comp renderings are not enough.

The board here is without pads, will be added later on request and ready for
some serious tests on the water.
See you in 10knots with full speed, upwind! Can't wait!
